Standing Up for Democracy
We elders are standing up for democracy across the country. We write postcards and help to get out the vote; we are the faces of many bridge brigades. Increasingly, we are witnessing the horror of the ICE agenda in our streets, and we are providing care, support, and solace to those who are on the front lines. In this meeting, we will celebrate our activism and share the issues that motivate our actions, as well as our insights into what we are doing and considering.
We will hear from some of our elders who have stood up and faced important issues of the day with courage and determination — from resisting detention centers to addressing climate and democracy. In breakout sessions, we will discuss the many ways democracy is now threatened and the ways individuals are standing up for it.
