Promote Voting Rights and Civic Engagement

Working to ensure every eligible voter can participate freely and fully in the electoral process.

We conduct robust, nonpartisan voter mobilization efforts year-round, often collaborating with partner organizations to amplify our impact. As threats to voting rights intensify, we expand our efforts to confront voter suppression and safeguard voters at every step of the electoral process.

Voting Action Team

Like-minded elders, who dedicate a few hours a month, come together to lead our work on voting rights and civic engagement:

  • Research voting issues. Research findings are routinely included in our Democracy Toolkit, ESD Community Meetings, in the ESD Newsletters, and discussed at our monthly Voting Action Team meetings.

  • Keep elders informed of issues and opportunities for proven actions for democracy, both nationally and locally, in collaboration with state chapters.

  • Mobilize voters by identifying opportunities for our elders to effectively increase participation among historically underrepresented groups. We partner with nonprofit organizations nationally, such as The Civic Center (supporting high school voter registration drives), Center for Common Ground (phone banking and postcarding), and Environmental Voter Project (also phone banking and postcarding). Locally, we share model opportunities to educate and encourage voters.
